There's a very long list of things you need in place to be successful on Twitter. Things such as a nice profile picture, a compelling bio, etc. However, this post is not about that. It's about the 4 high-level strategies you need to focus on to grow your engaged community.

"How do I accelerate the growth of my followers / community?"
"How do I get more people to Retweet me?"
"How do I get more done in less time?"

If you're trying hard to grow your network on Twitter, you likely often ponder those questions. Well, there is indeed a very long list of "tactics" you need in place, but that's a conversation for another day.

In this post we distill it all down to 4 high-level keys to success:

  1. Be compelling.
  2. Follow lots of relevant people.
  3. Tweet more. (but, quality over quantity!)
  4. Engage, engage, engage. (build relationships)

Of course, there's a lot of detail under the hood of each of those overly-simplistic statements. It's all in my recent slideshare presentation on the topic. Have a look...

Update: March 11, 2016...

In my original presentation I forgot to include a huge key to success. Arguably the most important key. It is one that I totally take for granted. I do this tactic ALL THE TIME, so I didn't even think it was necessary to mention. However, for the sake of completeness, I've updated the presentation to the "5 Keys to Success on Twitter." Thanks for reading...
